Current Research

The McDannald Lab investigates the neural mechanisms of fear learning and threat prediction. We use a multidisciplinary approach—combining behavioral assays, optogenetics, and in vivo electrophysiology—to uncover how the brain detects danger, forms associations, and drives fear-related behaviors. By targeting specific circuits and recording neural activity during learning, we aim to map the computations that underlie adaptive and maladaptive responses to threat.
